Lube Magazine Feature Article – Enhancing Hydraulic Efficiency with VBASE SPE Technology

Independent dynamometer testing shows that a hydraulic fluid formulated with VBASE® Secondary Polyol Ester® (SPE®) base oils can deliver up to 25% higher power output at low motor speeds, where real work gets done. Reduced friction losses and lower system flow losses translate into measurable efficiency gains, and ultimately into something every operator and OEM values: more work out for less power in.

VBASE Oil Company is proud to announce the publication of Enhancing hydraulic efficiency using Secondary Polyol Ester® technology” in Lube Magazine, Issue 191 (February 2026). Published by Lube Media, Lube Magazine is a respected European technical journal serving lubricant formulators, base oil specialists, and OEM professionals worldwide. In the article, Dr. Martin Greaves, CTO; Dr. Jeff DiMaio, CEO; Dr. Nathan Knotts, Senior Formulator and Innovation Scientist; and Zach Hunt, Senior Applications Specialist, present independent third-party testing conducted at the Fluid Power Institute at the Milwaukee School of Engineering comparing a hydraulic fluid formulated with SPE® technology to a leading factory-fill mineral oil reference fluid.

The study demonstrated consistent reductions in motor torque loss and system flow loss across multiple speeds and pressures. In practical terms, this means improved overall hydraulic efficiency, lower pump power demand, and higher productivity at the actuator. Faster cycle times, greater site throughput, and measurable reductions in fuel or power consumption are the operational implications. For OEMs and formulators facing increasing efficiency and sustainability requirements, the findings highlight how controlled molecular design at the base oil level can directly impact system performance.
