VBASE COO Stephen Eck Contributed to article in ILMA’s Compoundings July-Aug 2025 Issue

We’re proud to share that VBASE Oil Company’s Chief Operating Officer, Stephen Eck, was featured in the July–August 2025 issue of Compoundings magazine, published by the Independent Lubricant Manufacturers Association (ILMA). The article, “Advancing Alternatives,” explores the evolving landscape of sustainable base oils, highlighting how new technologies are bridging the gap between performance and environmental responsibility.

Stephen’s contributions to the article focus on the real-world performance advantages of VBASE’s Secondary Polyol Ester® (SPE®) base oils. As he explains, the market is demanding more from modern lubricants—particularly in high-temperature, high-stress environments where conventional hydrocarbon oils often fall short. “For hydrocarbon oils to meet modern requirements, they need increasingly complex additive packages,” Stephen noted. “As OEMs push for smaller, more powerful systems, formulators are turning to inherently high-performance base fluids.”

VBASE’s SPE base oils meet that need with a unique oxygen-rich structure that delivers high volumetric heat capacity, built-in detergency, and excellent wear protection. They’re also readily biodegradable and composed of more than 50% biobased carbon—making them a compelling choice for formulators looking to combine sustainability with best-in-class performance.

We’re thrilled to see VBASE’s SPE® technology—and leadership—contributing to the broader industry conversation around innovation in base oils.
