The article explores the unique properties and applications of oxygen-rich Secondary Polyol Ester™ (SPE®) base oils, a new class of synthetic esters designed to meet the growing demands for performance and sustainability in modern lubrication. SPE base oils are also readily biodegradable, non-toxic, and certified by both the USDA BioPreferred label and NSF HX-1, making them suitable for use in food-grade lubricants.
