Press Release: VBASE Committed to Offering Entire Portfolio of Base Oils as USDA BioPreferred, NSF HX-1, and LuSC-List
The full suite of VBASE base oil viscosity grades (ISO VG 32-100) are now on the EU Ecolabel LuSC-list. All VBASE base oils already achieved USDA BioPreferred status indicating percentage of biocontent. In addition, all VBASE base oils earned NSF HX-1 certification meaning they are suitable for use in lubricants for food contact applications.
With this news, VBASE® commits to a base oil product portfolio that complies with the stringent requirements of each of these programs so that customers can confidently include any VBASE base oil in their high performance environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL) formulations.
European Ecolabel’s LuSC-List (Lubricant Substance Classification list) identifies lubricants that have been verified as being environmentally friendly and meet the highest standards for performance and environmental protection. Lubricant formulators select LuSC-list components for their finished lubricant products in order to be considered Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants (EALs) and meet Vessel General Permit (VGP) and Vessel Incidental Discharge Act (VIDA) requirements. USDA BioPreferred label certifies the biobased content, which is the portion of a product that comes from a renewable source. Using renewable, biobased materials displaces the need for non-renewable petroleum-based materials. biopreferred.gov
NSF HX-1 status means that VBASE base oils are approved as a component in food grade lubricants intended for incidental food contact and for use in and around food processing areas (H1 lubricants). This is according to the International Registration Guidelines for Proprietary Substances and Nonfood Compounds. nsf.org
With the most recent addition of VBASE base oil grades to the EU Ecolabel LuSC-list, we are announcing our commitment to a VBASE product portfolio that is completely NSF HX-1, USDA BioPreferred, and LuSC list certified. By its very nature, lubrication increases sustainability by increasing efficiency, reducing waste, and lengthening the lifetime of equipment. With our technology, all this can be accomplished using biobased, biodegradable, and non-toxic lubricants. We are proud to provide oils that meet the performance needs of our customers but at the same time, reflect our foundational commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship.
VBASE CEO Jeff DiMaio, PhD
