VBASE/Tetramer Sustainable Hydropower Lubricant Development Featured by the National Hydropower Association (NHA)

Tetramer Principal Investigator Zach Hunt was interviewed by Nate Rivi, Junior Communications Analyst, U.S. Department of Energy, for an article entitled, “Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants: Advancing to Commercialization.”

Featured in this week’s National Hydropower Association‘s Powerhouse newsletter, Mr. Hunt detailed the Tetramer team’s experience in working under funding from the Department of Energy’s Water Power Technologies Office (WPTO) to develop an environmentally acceptable lubricant (EAL) for use in hydropower. With the successful development of an environmentally friendly hydropower lubricant, Tetramer spun out VBASE Oil Company to distribute VBASE Hydro T-EL as well as base oils suitable for a wide range of other applications.

“Bringing EALs to the spotlight for hydropower project owners will be a significant step toward increasing the environmental sustainability of hydropower. The research performed by these three projects will be instrumental in demonstrating the feasibility of using EALs in hydropower facilities, paving the way for easier regulation processes and a variety of environmental benefits.”
